An ᴀʟᴀʀᴍɪɴɢ photo of a baby sᴇᴇᴍɪɴɢʟʏ sᴛᴜᴄᴋ in a large glass tube has sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ some internet users, and given others a good laugh.
Don’t worry, the baby isn’t actually sᴛᴜᴄᴋ, they’re just getting a ᴄʜᴇsᴛ X ray in a ‘Pɪɢɢ-O-Sᴛᴀᴛ’. Pɪɢɢ-O-Sᴛᴀᴛs have been used since 1960 and are designed to immobilise wriggly little ones, there fore limiting their ᴇxᴘᴏsᴜʀᴇ to more ʀᴀᴅɪᴀᴛɪᴏɴ than necessary while being sᴄᴀɴɴᴇᴅ. Where ᴘᴀᴇᴅɪᴀᴛʀɪᴄ ʀᴀᴅɪᴏʟᴏɢʏ is ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇʀɴᴇᴅ, young ɪɴꜰᴀɴᴛs are placed in padded cradles to keep them still, while larger babies are held steady on changing mats. Older babies needing ⒸⓉ or ⓂⓇⒾscan are sᴇᴅᴀᴛᴇᴅ or ᴀɴᴀᴇsᴛʜᴇᴛɪsᴇᴅ. And a viral tweet of adorable youngsters being sǫᴜɪsʜᴇᴅ into the clear tube, which appears to be attached to a table has left Twitter users unable to ‘stop laughing’, after it was shared on Twitter by a user from Canada.
Thousands of people have commented on the Tweet . Some parents even shared their own experiences of when their children had to use on of the contraptions. One person wrote: ” My first kid had one of these. They didn’t ᴡᴀʀɴ me. I ʙᴀᴡʟᴇᴅ my eyes out when they put him in it because he was so sᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ. The pics are hella funny, but man being there in person is ᴛᴏʀᴛᴜʀᴇ. U feel ʜᴇʟᴘʟᴇss and the kid looks at you like they’re gonna ᴍᴏʟʟʏᴡʜᴏᴘ you after they get out!”
However one father hit back at those saying it wasn’t funny, and said: “Everyone criticizing people for laughing needs to relax.Yes I have a kid need to be in one for a ᴄʜᴇsᴛ X ray, yes they sᴄʀᴇᴀᴍᴇᴅ and cried . They sᴄʀᴇᴀᴍᴇᴅ and cried just as hard when I wouldn’t let them drink out of the ᴅᴏɢs ʙᴏᴡʟ.” A radiographer came along and explained: “It might look hilarious, but it’s a ᴅᴀᴍɴ life sᴀᴠᴇʀ. It’s called a piggostat . I use one every time I do a ᴄʜᴇsᴛ X ray on a baby. Its use is to immobilise the child so that they don’t wigglr around . It might look sᴄᴀʀʏ, but it saves me from repeating my images and excess ʀᴀᴅɪᴀᴛɪᴏɴ.”
