Meet Tɪɴʏ Logan Gillmore weighed just 2lbs 2oz , the same amount as a bag of sugar and measured 11 inches in length when he was born in January.
The couple Cara and Stephen from Clacton-on-Sea got married in August last year, after 15 years together. They found out they were expecting honeymoon baby Logan. Cara said :”After ʟᴏsɪɴɢ our previous son Louie at 22 weeks we kept things quiet until New Year’s Day when I was 25 weeks. It was the easiest ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ but just a week later on January 8th I went to bed as usual and at 3am my ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀs ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ. I was ᴛᴇʀʀɪғɪᴇᴅ on the way to ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ, we didn’t know whether the baby would sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇ or have sᴇʀɪᴏᴜs ᴘʀᴏʙʟᴇᴍs.” The couple ʀᴜsʜᴇᴅ to Cᴏʟᴄʜᴇsᴛᴇʀ ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ and were then transferred to Addenbrooke’s ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ in Cambridge. Logan was born via ᴇᴍᴇʀɢᴇɴᴄʏ C-sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ on January 13 weighing just 2lbs 2oz. Cara said: “When he was born it was a massive relief to hear him let out a little cry. He was ǫᴜɪᴛᴇ ғᴇɪsᴛʏ and ᴋɪᴄᴋᴇᴅ the ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀ away with his foot as he was lifted up. It was good to know he had some ғɪɢʜᴛ in him.”
Cara said Logan, who was ᴠᴇʀʏ ғʀᴀɢɪʟᴇ after such a ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ arrival, would have ᴀ ᴘᴏsɪᴛɪᴠᴇ few days but then would sᴜғғᴇʀ ᴀ sᴇᴛʙᴀᴄᴋ. The Tɪɴʏ tot was kept warm using a sandwich bag and an ɪɴᴄᴜʙᴀᴛᴏʀ and at just four days old he ᴜɴᴅᴇʀᴡᴇɴᴛ sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ on a ᴘᴇʀғᴏʀᴀᴛᴇᴅ ʙᴏᴡᴇʟ and had ᴀ sᴛᴏᴍᴀ ʙᴀɢ ғɪᴛᴛᴇᴅ. He had the ʀᴇᴠᴇʀsᴀʟ ᴏᴘᴇʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴ at the age of nine weeks and finally at 82 days old was allowed home. Cara said: “Our time in ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ was sᴄᴀʀʏ, we never knew what each day would bring. Logan had ᴛᴡᴏ ᴏᴘᴇʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴs, was ʀᴇsᴜsᴄɪᴛᴀᴛᴇᴅ three times, was ᴠᴇɴᴛɪʟᴀᴛᴇᴅ ɴᴜᴍᴇʀᴏᴜs ᴛɪᴍᴇs and had ᴍᴜʟᴛɪᴘʟᴇ ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ ᴛʀᴀɴsғᴜsɪᴏɴs.The ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble, the care was second to none.”
Cara kitted Logan out with special ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ baby clothes from high street stores, but admitted there wasn’t a massive amount of choice. He was sᴏ sᴍᴀʟʟ that his parents Cara and Stephen could only dress him in special ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ baby vests as they wouldn’t completely swamp him or ᴀɢɢʀᴀᴠᴀᴛᴇ his ᴏᴘᴇʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴ sᴄᴀʀs. However the family, who are huge Manchester United fans, didn’t let that stop them from making sure little Logan could wear his team colours with pride. He was far too sᴍᴀʟʟ for the official baby outfits, but his uncle Peter Brown, 23, came up with a brilliant idea to solve the problem. Cara were thrilled to see their ‘little ғɪɢʜᴛer’ get to wear a football kit much sooner than they expected .
Cara said: “I had the biggest smile on my face when I laid eyes on him in that outfit it made my heart melt. I hadn’t expect him to have a kit for a long time because he’s sᴏ sᴍᴀʟʟ. He looked adorable in it, so cute. It was like he was a very sᴍᴀʟʟ grown up, we’d waited so long to be able to get him proper little clothes and there he was in a football kit. I was brought up with three brothers who all support Manchester United, so it’s in the family. It was so lovely to see after everything he’s been through to see him wearing the kit. The sᴍᴀʟʟest Manchester United kit we could have got in the shops starts at size three to six months, given how sᴍᴀʟʟ he still is we didn’t think he would be able to wear one until his first birthday.”
