A mother bear and her four cubs were attempting to cross the road when the mother repeatedly paced back and forth across the road. A police officer from the Town of Carroll Police Department in New Hampshire noticed the mother’s behavior and discovered that one of the cubs was sick and unable to keep up with the rest.
Although the mother bear wanted all four cubs to remain with her, she eventually had to leave the weak cub behind to continue with the others. The officer intervened and decided to help.
After controlling the bear traffic, the Town of Carroll Police Department brought the weak cub to Fish and Game for rehabilitation since it was too weak to keep up with its mother and siblings. The department explained that this left the mother bear with three other healthy cubs that she could focus on and take care of. The other two cubs will also be rehabilitated and returned to the wild when they are stronger.
The department reminded people not to handle or pick up wild animals and to contact their local police department or Fish and Game if they encounter any issues with wildlife.
